After months of hiding from cameras and more generally from prying eyes, the new one Ford Fusion Active has returned to the fore to undergo a series of undercover tests on European roads. Once again the prototypes of the mysterious blue Oval house crossover wore a camouflage livery, but that didn’t stop us from taking a deeper look at its aerodynamic design and its very curvy style.
Interestingly, the prototypes tested by Ford actually present two different design philosophies: the headlights of one prototype are rather slender while those of the other materialize into significantly larger lighting units with two horizontal LED bands, the taillights appear to be in the final production version on only one of the two prototypes, the mirrors are mounted on the doors on one crossover and on the pillar on the other crossover. At the moment it is not clear why Ford has decided to equip these prototypes with different design elements, although this is probably a choice dictated by the fact that the new Fusion Active will be offered on different markets in different configurations. A path that Ford has already traveled with other models: think for example of the large Explorer SUV, which on the Chinese market is offered with a different design from that of the US market.
Not only differences, however: both prototypes tested by the Blue Oval house presented the door handles flush-mounted rather large, an element that, according to Carscoops, could indicate that the new Fusion Active could be equipped with a third row of seats, thus allowing the mysterious US crossover to compete with rival models of the likes of Toyota Highlander. How many to the interiors and to the engine offerhowever, at the moment there is no information: we will have to wait for the official debut of the SUV expected by the end of the year.
