Hot-hatchbak, an acronym that defines a market segment that is gradually disappearing throughout the modern history of the automobile. However, there are some small pearls in this segment: Ford Fiesta ST is one of those, and this is our road test of the little monster of the American house par excellence. The direct experience of how do you live day by day with such a car is below, enjoy it, because it was one of the cars that have improved the most over time.
A hot hatchbak off the track
Fiesta ST presents itself in all its sporty essence: the color that Ford has assigned us is the Mean-Green which, to an expert eye and a shrewd one, immediately makes us understand the arrogance of this medium. the 18 alloy wheels make their figure on the vehicle which is completed with the classic honeycomb front grille, where the red ST logo stands out on the right, while at the bottom there are the air intakes directed to the brake calipers anterior. On the rear there are no LED headlights, too bad, while The air extractor at the bottom, in the same color as the body, dominates complete with double outlet exhaust placed on the right of the viewer. Inside, even the little one from the Ford house has changed: we are welcomed by a heel kick FORD PERFORMANCE which already does understand the racing nature of the vehicle, but to take the place of this soul that is anything but calm are the new sports seats developed by the same division engraved on the sill. The company worked hard to give back a front and rear seat designed both for the track and for everyday life: incredibly comfortable, the seat is presented with the classic sporty styles, leather mixed shaved fabric really comfortable and rigid at the right point with lumbar cushion adjustable both in height and in depth, even the extension of the seat (even those premium elements that make the its appearance in this car).

In this case, in addition to the non-adaptive traction control, we find the button Sport, which is a shortcut to the mode it represents. The novelty, however, lies in the full digital odometer system (the same already seen on the Ford Puma cousin that introduced this novelty). Complete the overall dashboard with the screen and the element-packed Sync 3 system with Apple Car Play And Android Autoboth of which can be interfaced via cable, and at the bottom, under the buttons for the air conditioning, there is the possibility of heating the steering wheel and the front seats (not recommended in this period since in Rome it easily exceeds 30 °) .
Ford Performance
How does the Ford Fiesta ST fare on the road? Admirably! The improvements compared to the last edition are many under the hood and these translate into greater stability and driving pleasure: first of all there is a small but very powerful 1.5L turbo with 3 cylinders (able to make you believe you are a 4-cylinder, word of the writer) responsive and full of energy that develops 200 horsepower at 6000 rpm while the torque (also improved and it feels bad!) comes to 290 Nm in the arc that travels from 1600 to 4000 engine revolutions. There full speed according to Ford it is of 232km / hwhile as regards our test, we found a 227km / h but it is possible that the engine was still “young” as it was delivered to us with only 600km run, consequently the engine had just faked running in and it is certain that can give more.
You can touch 100km / h in 6.5 seconds that they seem a lot less than normal thanks to a new gearbox system than in mode Sport or Circuit it assists the change electronically, even if you change the actual manually, but the feeling it returns is that of having already changed while moving from the second to the third, so to speak. The new shifting system makes everything not only more fun to live, but also more effective, giving the right torque to the wheels that are finally glued to the ground: ok we are talking about a front-wheel drive but we remember well how easy it was to lose your thirst with the “old” ST while now the car allows you to take bends at track speed and open the throttle safely (always progressively) in mid-trajectory and get out of the curve cleanly with no slippage whatsoever. A great job from the manufacturer.
Daily with determination
The Ford Fiesta ST is a car different from its “normal” version of the same name, capable of giving strong emotions both on the track and in an urban context: it is as versatile as the standard version in terms of space for both passengers and in the trunk, of course. it is not an SUVergo do not expect to load us a sofabut there is enough space to go on a trip or go shopping, not to mention that in the version we supplied there was also the spare wheel compartment (a must-have for all pilots in our opinion), but if you wanted to choose to bring with you the kit to inflate the tires or to run on run-flats then the space almost doubles in the trunk and this is an element to be taken into account.
In the city it is responsive and snappy and consumption is more than honest: you go from a 15km per liter if you behave “well” that is, regular shift times are respected and exceeding 100km / h is avoided, while if you drive (as you would like to be driven!) in a racing manner, 9km per liter are easily touched. Negative points in the interior, certainly the gear knobplaced perhaps slightly too low and with the metal material framed by the skin (thankfully) becomes incandescent in the sun and this is really uncomfortable in a spring / summer period. For the rest, we can tell you that the attack price of the Ford Fiesta ST is € 29,900.00 and we arrive at a tip that slightly exceeds € 33,000.00 for the model identical to the version described here. Basically, if you are between 20 and 30 years old and you are looking for a car that you can take to the track during the weekend without too many demands or changes of set-up and tires (which yes, you will change but after use) it is possible that Ford Fiesta ST just for you, and you won’t be disappointed.
