Ford has decided to increase the amount of investments which it will allocate to the development of new electric models. This was announced by the car manufacturer of the Blue Oval: the billions of dollars that will be allocated to Ford’s future EVs by 2026 will no longer be 30 as previously decided, but 50. According to forecasts by Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, the society will produce over 2 million electricity in 2026equal to one third of its global annual production, and will do so through a unit dedicated exclusively to EVs, separate from that of internal combustion engines.
Anyway, Ford does not expect to make a substantial profit from its electric vehicle business until the next generation models will officially enter production, then in 2025. As mentioned, one of the fundamental steps that will be taken by Ford will concern the separation of the EV (Ford Model) unit from that of the thermal vehicles (Ford Blue), a surprising choice considering that only a few days ago Jim Farley himself had denied the rumors about a possible spin-off: although the two units will therefore be distinct, the technologies they will share will be different. To these two units there is a third one, called Ford Pro, destined for the development of commercial vehicles: starting from 2023 these three divisions they will report their results separately.
Among Ford’s ambitions there is also that of reduce structural costs up to 3 billion dollars for what concerns the activity of thermal engines, we will see if to achieve this goal the Blue Oval house will also be forced to reduce its workforce. In 2022 alone, the company will invest up to $ 5 billion in the electric vehicle business, the double than it did last year: Ford’s hope is that battery-powered vehicles could account for 50% of the company’s total production volume by 2030.
