“Bring us to Landini’s or we’ll go get it”. Like this Giuliano Castellino, leader of Forza Nuova, addressed some police officers after the demonstrators, on Saturday in Rome, managed to break through the cordon and reach the headquarters of the CGIL. The detail emerges from the request for validation of the arrest made by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office.
And just the prosecutor of Rome in August had already requested the arrest of Castellino for the continuous violations of the obligations imposed by the special surveillance. Request at the time refused by the judge. For this reason, the Roman head of Forza Nuova last Saturday was on the stage in Piazza del Popolo to address the crowd and to incite it against the headquarters of the CGIL.
On 3 August, in fact, the prosecutors led by the prosecutor Michele Pristipino had asked the family to put Castellino under house arrest, because any other prescription had proved useless. But three weeks later, on August 25, the investigating judge denied pre-trial detention. Because the judgments of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights have restricted the field of “violation of obligations” for those who are subjected to special surveillance: the non-observance of the rules of “living honestly” and “respecting the laws” is not sufficient.
In this case, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, Castellino’s behavior had gone much further, because his taking to the streets despite the prohibitions resulted in the commission of other crimes; in particular from 2020, from the first anti-closure rallies to the anti-green pass appointments last July. But the investigating judge did not consider the elements brought by the prosecution to be sufficient.
In the request for arrest for the attack on the headquarters of the CGIL, the Roman prosecutors reiterated the need for Castellino to remain detained: “The fact that all the measures adopted over the years against Castellino in order to contain the thrust is socially alarming delinquent have not had any result up to now and have not been able to prevent him from continuing undaunted in the commission of crimes ”. Today the investigating judge will question those arrested and then decide on the request to confirm their detention.
