Profeco’s study verified that all samples complied with labeling standards, including essential information such as name, classification, brand, expiration date and net content. In addition, the veracity of the ingredients and legends present on the labels was evaluated.
Among the brands evaluated, San Rafael turkey ham – Real Turkey Ham (300 g) stood out for its superior nutritional profile. This product contains only 2.20 grams of fat per serving and 15 percent fat-free protein, providing 101 kilocalories per 100 grams.
Zwan Premium Wellbeing – Turkey Ham (250 g) also received the recommendation from Profeco. This option offers 3.54 percent fat and 16.2 percent protein, with a calorie content of 107 kilocalories per 100 grams.
Beyond Turkey: Pork Ham Options
For those who prefer pork ham, Peñaranda – Baked Without Added Salt (200 g) stands out as a healthy alternative. This product contains 20.6 percent fat-free protein and only 2.48 percent fat, making it one of the lowest fat options on the market.
Moderate consumption: key to a healthy diet
While Profeco offers this information as a guide to choosing healthier options when consuming ham, it is crucial to remember that the WHO recommends limiting the consumption of processed meats, including ham, to a maximum of 50 grams per day.
