Finnish pilot Simo Valakari is the new head coach of St. Johnstone, who plays in the Scottish Premier League. The club announced Valakari’s contract on Tuesday. Valakari, 51, moves to Scotland from the position of coach of Latvian Riga FC.
Valakari has signed a contract with the club until 2027.
Riga FC, coached by Valakari this season, is in second place in the Latvian league. The championship is slipping away to local rival RFS.
St. Johnstone is in tenth place in the Scottish Premier League.
In Finland, Valakari is remembered for his coaching career at the helm of SJK and KuPS. In SJK, he won the Finnish championship in 2015.
Valakar’s son Onni Valakari plays professionally in the Swedish Allsvenskan for AIK from Solna.
