Football Schalke, Germany’s second-tier football club, ends cooperation with Russian gas giant

Schalke 04 has previously removed the Gazprom logo from its jersey. Prior to that, the German newspaper Bild replaced the logo in its game images with the message Freedom for Ukraine.

Football Schalke 04, who plays in the second Bundesliga in Germany, announced on Monday that he would end his cooperation with the Russian gas giant Gazprom.

Schalke says on their websitethat its management has reached an agreement on the early termination of the partnership agreement.

The cooperation between Schalke and Gazprom began in 2007. The parties extended the agreement in 2016 for five years, until the end of the 2022 period. German newspaper Bild said at the time the total value of the extension agreement was EUR 150 million.

On Monday, Schalke said he was in talks with Gazprom to terminate the agreement. It also said the decision will not affect the club’s financial capabilities. Schalke believes he will find a new partner in the near future.

Gazpromin the logo disappeared from Schalke’s outfit as early as last week. Company informed last Thursday to remove the logo from his chest and replace it with the text Schalke 04.

Bild had already replaced the Gazprom logo with text by image processing the day before Freedom for Ukraine i.e. Freedom for Ukraine, and announced on its website that it would stop the Russian president who had invaded Ukraine Vladimir Putin advertising.

Following the German-language media Bildblog wrote on the subject after Bild’s decision.
