The red-hot Derby got off to a dark start outside Atlético Madrid’s stadium. Atlético fans chanted racist chants at the Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior. Fans raised the ire by criticizing Vinicius’ dance moves that he does after scoring goals.

Reedless fans threw trash at Vinicius after Real’s goal, and racist chants continued.

The flames flared when Rodrygo scored a goal for Real Madrid in the 18th minute and started dancing with Vinicius in front of the Atlético fans. Cigarette lighters flew towards the duo.

“Derbies are always important, but today was a little different as it has been all week,” Rodrygo said, according to news agency AFP.

“We gave our answer on the grass, and I can only speak for myself. I’m satisfied that I played well and scored a goal,” said Rodrygo.

Real Madrid won the match on the away field 2–1, when Federico Valverde took the team to a 2–0 lead in the 36th minute. The home team Nervous managed to narrow it down just under ten minutes before the end.

Karim Benzema was missing from Real’s lineup injured, but Antoine Griezmann made the starting lineup for the first time this season.
