Kuikka succeeded in scoring in the semi-finals.
Finland women’s soccer national team defender Natalia Kuikka experienced the peak of his career on Sunday when the Portland Thorns he represented won the International Champions Cup.
Kuikka was chosen as the best player in the whole tournament.
In the final, Thorns won multiple Champions League runners-up with 1-0 in France.
The Champions Cup saw Houston Dash, the reigning champion of the U.S. Community Shield, and Portland Thorns, who won the Challenge Cup in the spring.
Among the European teams, last season’s Champions League winner Barcelona and last season’s champion Lyon were included.
In the semi-finals Thorns faced Dash and rose from a 0-2 loss to Kuika and Olivia Moultrien with paints. The match dragged on to a penalty shootout, which Thorns took 3–1 in his name, even though Kuikka failed in his own attempt.
In the final, Thorns met Lyon, who had won Barcelona 3-2 in his own semi-final. Thorns won the final Megan Weaverin a few minutes before the end by finishing.
