The winter transfer market has closed for Europe’s top leagues and now Football Manager players are looking forward to the chance to take charge of their new teams.
Like every year, Football Manager releases a major update to update teams and allow players to start a new save game with accurate and up-to-date transfers, and it’s only a matter of time before the 2023 edition does the same.
This is what we know about the Football Manager 2023 video game winter update.

The main focus of the update is transfers. All deals that have been made since the game’s launch earlier this season will be included, so Chelsea fans will have almost a completely new game to enjoy after their record-breaking investment in the recent transfer window.
The fun doesn’t end there though, as the update also includes coaching departures, changes to player abilities and potentials to reflect the progress of real players on the pitch.
There is no set date for the release of the update, and Football Manager representatives regularly tell players that it will be ready in due time.
The FM22 update occurred on February 24, four days after the 2021 launch, but a week before FM20, which ran into March, so the dates may be similar.
It is important to note that this is a ‘winter update’ and not a ‘January update’ as it takes into account transfer windows around the world that do not close on January 31st.
While most windows close at the end of January, some stay open for a few more weeks. For example, teams in Switzerland have until February 15 and both Bulgaria and Romania can do business until February 22.
A major release usually arrives at the end of February, with a small update usually releasing in March to add closing the few windows that run until then.
