Football HJK: Jair Silva’s contract terminated, conceals conviction for 12-year-old sexual abuse

Jair Silva was convicted of sexual exploitation of a 12-year-old as early as April 2021.

Veikkausliiga club HJK has terminated the contract with its Brazilian midfielder Jair Tavares Silvan because of the criminal conviction he received. HJK spoke about it in the bulletin Monday evening.

Evening paper reported earlier Monday that Silva had received a seven-month suspended prison sentence for child sexual abuse.

The crime occurred in 2016, and the victim was 12 years old at the time of the crime. The victim had told Silva his age.

Silva received the verdict in the district court as early as April 16, 2021, but she kept it secret from the club when negotiating a contract with HJK for the 2021 term.

HJK said in a press release that it had not heard of Silva’s verdict until Monday. Immediately after that, Silva was removed from the HJK Finnish Cup match against VPS.

Iltalehti according to Silva met the victim on the football field after social media communication. He asked the victim to stay away from the friends involved and praised this as beautiful.

He then kissed the victim, tried to lower his pants and touch the victim. The situation ended when the victim’s friends called him.

Silva received a seven-month suspended prison sentence for the crime, in addition to which he was sentenced to pay the victim EUR 1,500 in compensation and the state legal costs.
