Football | Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is suspended on Saturday – the result of a clash with Tottenham’s Antonio Conte

Chelsea’s head coach Thomas Tuchel is suspended when his side host Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday. The disciplinary action comes as a result of him confronting Tottenham’s head coach Antonio Conte with after a local match in London earlier this month.

Tuchel accused the referees of the match for wrong judgments in the match that ended in a 2-2 draw. Emotions ran high, and the German coach and his Italian counterpart Conte received red cards for their heated confrontation, which had escalated into a fistfight.

Both of them head coaches were fined by FA disciplinarians, but only Tuchel received a one-match suspension after he was deemed “mainly responsible” for the clash, which began with a handshake between the coaches after the match.

“Head coach [Tuchel] admitted that his behavior after the match was inappropriate,” the football association said in a statement, according to news agency Reuters

“The Independent Disciplinary Committee fined him £35,000 as a result [41 000 euron] a fine and a referee ban for one match.”

“Thomas Tuchel appealed against his sanctions, but the Appeal Board has rejected the appeal.”

Ills started at the end of the second period when Tottenham’s topper Cristian Romero pulled the Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella hair, prompting Tuchel to fly into a rage after neither the referee nor the video umpires intervened in an obvious foul.

Ahead of the FA’s disciplinary ruling, Tuchel said he would not condemn his red card or suspension, but struggled to understand how Conte got away without a similar punishment.

“It is difficult to accept the context. I don’t think I started the confrontation, it started earlier. I think I wasn’t the only one involved – we both got red cards,” Tuchel told reporters.

“A player pulled another player’s hair just a couple of minutes earlier, and he was allowed to continue playing. Another coach was suspended for a violent handshake. This is very difficult to accept, but I have to accept it.”

Tuchel said the referee ban will not prevent him from coming to the stadium and staying in the Chelsea dressing room.

Chelsea is in twelfth place in the Premier League after collecting four points from three matches and five points behind league leader Arsenal. Tottenham is fourth in the league table, two points behind Arsenal.
