Britain and Ireland are willing to host five European Football Championship joint tournaments in 2028.
Among other things, the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC however, said on its website and Twitter on Wednesday that Russia at war would be interested in challenging a joint British – Irish application.
Britain and Ireland were planning to apply for the World Cup in 2030, but the local football associations decided to change their application to the European Championships as early as 2028.
Behind the joint tournament are five football associations: England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Russia has been completely excluded from international football due to the war in Ukraine, but according to the BBC, the country would still be interested in applying for the Games. Behind the closure decision are the two football associations Fifa and Uefa, the International Football Association and the European Federation.
According to the BBC, the deadline for submitting the application is Wednesday at 7 pm Finnish time.
BBC’s and The Guardian according to Russia would be interested in hosting the Games in 2028 or 2032.
In England the last full-fledged European Football Championship was held in 1996, when Germany won the European Championship.
The 2020 European Championships were only played in the second half of last year, but then the race cities included Glasgow and London, Scotland. The final of the tournament was played in London.
