Football | A strong candidate for Veikkausliiga goal of the year was born in Espoo

Agon Sadiku’s chip over the goalkeeper was one of the season’s greatest performances in the Veikkausliiga.

FC Honka–FC Inter 2–1 (1–0)

Draft beat Turku-based Inter 2–1 at home and secured their positions in third place in the Veikkausliiga. The ranking would qualify for a place in next year’s Conference League qualifiers.

With two rounds of matches remaining, there are four points to the second-placed KuPS, and three points to the fourth-placed Haka.

Honga no longer has a chance for the championship.

in Tapiola was seen on Thursday as a strong candidate for Veikkausliiga goal of the year. Honga’s elegant 2–0 goal was completed Agon Sadikufor whom the goal was already the 14th of the season.

Sadiku put the ball in the net when it already seemed that he had wasted his chance by being too early in front of the goal. Inter goalkeeper Matias Riikonen however, had crept up so far that Sadiku coolly chipped the ball over him.

The performance looked easy, but was it?

“It’s easy if the grass is a bit wet. Today was wet”, Sadiku said after the match.

In the early moments of the match, we immediately saw great drama. Goal gun Sadiku put Honga in the lead already in the seventh minute of the game, but when Inter attacked the next time, they immediately got a penalty kick at the other end.

Matias Tamminen the shot seemed to hit Ville Kosken hand, but despite that Honka violently protested the penalty. To the delight of the home crowd Maxim Rudakov however, managed to stop it from the spot Petteri Forsellin.

40 minutes a situation occurred on the field that could have had dangerous consequences. Forsell fired his shot, one of the hardest in the league, from two meters directly Kevin Jansen to the back of the head and the Dutchman fell to the ground.

Jansen had turned his back a little too much when blocking the shot, but luckily for everyone, the fiery itch didn’t do more damage this time. Honga’s credit gambler was able to continue the match.

“I got a little headache, but that’s normal if you hit the ball that hard in the head! But I’m okay now, I hope the night goes well too,” he said.

Jensen took painkillers at halftime to make him feel better. He was aware of whose leg the terrible bomb had left.

“I know he has [Forsell] is a really hard shot, but I didn’t expect it to the back of my head. I took it for the team.”

From the Inter camp carried some bad news after Sunday’s HJK match, when the midfielder Matias Ojalan the season was declared over. Ojala was injured in a tackle against HJK and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.

Ojala said on Twitter that both the posterior cruciate ligament and the lateral ligament of his knee broke in the same stroke. Despite the injury, he still wants to support his team – even if from the stands.

“We’ll see if the leg can withstand moderate bouncing on the ledges at the end of the month. I wouldn’t want to extend my sick leave in the stands,” Ojala joked on Twitter.

Championship escape and the HJK European League match to be played in Helsinki on the same evening taxed the audience in Tapiola. Spectators were quite weak.

Honka will play its second last match of the Veikkausliiga’s upper secondary series on Monday as a guest of SJK.

Correction 6.10. 8:10 p.m.: By placing third, Honka would go directly to the Conference League qualifiers, not the Veikkausliiga “Euro final tournament”.
