She stressed the importance of choosing foods that help the pilgrims perform the rites of Hajj easily, especially that the total period that the pilgrim spends to perform the rites does not exceed two weeks.
In a guidebook issued to educate pilgrims, the authority advised to rely on low-risk foodstuffs that can be stored at room temperature and do not need refrigeration, such as honey, canned food and dry materials, and to reduce high-risk and perishable foods, such as meat, poultry and fish.
The booklet stated that if the pilgrim went to buy a food product from the stores, he should make sure to read the food label, make sure of the expiry date, and that there are no dents, swelling, rust or leakage in the canned ingredients.
He also stressed the consumption of bottled drinking water, and not drinking from tap water, due to the lack of certainty of the safety of its source. The authority warned pilgrims not to drink tap water.
