Colombian singer Fonseca He came to our country to offer a heartfelt concert on August 29 at the Peru Arena together with his compatriot Juanes. In an interview with La República, he assured that he is going through the most special moment of his life when he celebrates his 20-year musical career.
The artist recounts his close relationship with Callao, confesses his desire to be a coach on the program “La voz Peru” and also reveals that he is hoping to launch a song together with the national composer Gian Marco.
—Fonseca, you return to Peru after a long wait to reunite with your followers.
—Happy to return to Peru after a long wait, almost four years have passed. This is the place where I have the best memories, which has welcomed me from the beginning of my career, a country that has been very special and generous to me.
—Of all the times you have come to Peru, do you have any anecdote or moment that you have not been able to forget?
—I will never forget that concert when I came to a festival in the Callao and it was full of people enjoying the music, as they celebrate there. Realizing that people not only knew my theme of “I send you flowers”, but many others. From there I fell in love with this land because it has been very special.
—And you don’t come alone, but twice, accompanied by your compatriot Juanes…
—Yes, we were on Saturday (August 27) in Arequipa and the audience was amazing. Juanes and I are very good friends. They proposed the idea to us and we said in one: “Let’s go there”.
—Few artists get to celebrate their 20-year career with an international tour, how do you take this special date?
—Very proud of these 20 years, besides the fact that I can celebrate it by releasing my ninth album “Viajante”. Peru has also been a fundamental part of this race and it’s great that it can come here to celebrate what has been achieved in all these years.
—And on a personal level, looking back, how do you receive them?
—They have been years of a lot of work, of many trips, a lot of music. Today I look back and it’s amazing that time goes by so fast. I don’t feel like 20 years have passed. I am happy where I am in my life, with my family, my wife, that we have created this dream that we had.
—In the song “I came to look for you” you mention a very striking phrase: “Few things scare me, except losing the light”, could you explain what it means to you? What is your biggest fear?
—Losing inspiration, that is one of the biggest fears you can have as an artist and composer. That moment of sitting down to make music and having that personal communion with telling your life through songs. That is the biggest fear.
—Has it ever happened to you that you lost your way?
—If I think about my first album, I always felt like it wasn’t the kind of musical production I would have wanted, but it was like the first moment I jumped into the water. At that time I was with a Venezuelan record label. There are certain things that, if I had the opportunity to change right now, I would, but nothing serious that I would regret for life.
—Is there only learning from every mistake?
—It’s part of the learning process, to get here you have to go through a lot.
—Gian Marco was also at your show in Arequipa. Is there the possibility of recording a song together?
—With Gian Marco we have a friendship of many years, we have always talked to do something together. The precise song has not arrived, we have made a couple of attempts, we wrote a song together called “Eternal Love” and that I later recorded with Victor Manuelle. With Gian Marco there is always the desire to do something together and I am sure that time will come.
—Would you like to venture into Peruvian television? Here there are various singing contests, perhaps in “La voz Perú”.
-Of course, I have had the opportunity in Colombia, it is a subject that I like. In addition, it is a way of giving back to life that has allowed me to achieve my dreams and to live from what I live. Of course I would like to be here in Lima doing something like that.
—“I send you flowers” became a success in Peru and to this day it is heard loudly, what is the secret for a song that transcends time?
—I believe that good music and good songs will always be there, we can see that over the years. “I send you flowers” has that essence of staying that way, over time.
