Folco (Fipc): “Therapeutic adherence is as important as prevention”

“In protecting our heart against cardiovascular disease, I would like to emphasize that, in addition to the importance of keeping risk factors under control and finding the right therapy, there is another crucial element: therapeutic adherence.” This was stated by Emanuela Folco, president of the Italian Heart Foundation (Fipc), today in Milan at the presentation of the campaign ‘From heart to heart’, aimed in particular at those who have a high and very high risk of cardiac events to inform on the need to control risk factors, therapeutic adherence and the adoption of a correct lifestyle.

At the event, promoted by Novartis and sponsored by Fipc and the Italian Heart Failure Association (Aisc) to support the educational project ‘Listen to your heartbeat’, Folco underlined the importance of having “a wide range of exceptional therapeutic options. But if we are not adherent, we do not follow the therapies and the indications of our doctor, we throw away not only money, ours and the national health system’s, but above all years of life. Adherence, not only to therapy but also to lifestyle, is very important. We must therefore take our health into our own hands and be aware and responsible for ourselves. Therapeutic adherence – he concluded – is part of being responsible”.
