Flying Only 19-year-old Zara Rutherford made history and flew around the world as the youngest woman

Belgian-British Zara from Rutherford came on Thursday the youngest woman to have flown around the world, the newspaper said The Guardian.

Rutherford landed in Flanders, Belgium, after traveling about 52,000 kilometers in an ultralight aircraft. At the same time, she became the first woman to have flown alone around the world in such a plane, and the first Belgian to have flown around the planet alone.

“Everything is just so crazy. I haven’t fully understood it yet, ”Rutherford said at the airport.

“I would say the hardest part was flying over Siberia because it was so extremely cold there. There were 35 degrees of frost on the ground. If the engine had stopped, I would have been hours away from the rescue and I wouldn’t have known how long I would have survived. ”

Quickly the changed entry restrictions due to the coronavirus also affected the pilot’s route.

Among other things, Rutherford had to skip a stop in China because, according to local requirements, he would have had to spend time in quarantine.

This became one of the scariest parts of Rutherford’s journey when he had to create through one of the busiest airspaces in the world to get to South Korea. At the same time, he had to be especially careful not to wander into the airspace of China or North Korea.

Records after his broken flight, Rutherford plans to study electrical engineering. His wish is to enter space like his Russian role model, the cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova.

Rutherford hopes her trip will inspire girls to study more and more science and technology.

“When I grew up, I didn’t really see many female pilots or female IT researchers. These two are my passions, and it’s pretty depressing if there’s no one to identify with. ”

The flight included 31 countries and 5 continents. The Rutherford route ran from Belgium to Britain, Greenland, the Americas, Russia, Southeast Asia, North India, the Middle East and Egypt, and eventually back to Europe.
