On Sunday, floodwaters inundated neighborhoods in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, after heavy monsoon rains, which, according to police, led to the deaths of at least about 100 people.
Large areas of Nepal have been inundated since Friday, prompting disaster authorities to warn of the possibility of flash floods in many rivers.
Police spokesman Dan Bahadur Karki said: “The death toll has risen to 101, and 64 people are missing.”
He added, “The death toll is likely to rise as search and rescue operations continue in the affected areas.”
Rivers around the capital, Kathmandu, overflowed, submerging nearby homes.
More than 3,000 security personnel were deployed to assist in rescue efforts by helicopter and motorized boats.
Rescue teams used rafts to pull survivors to safety.
