The Malaysian Armed Forces used boats on Tuesday (21) to distribute food to people locked in their homes after flooding that left 14 dead and 70,000 homeless in the country.
The weekend’s heavy rains caused the worst flooding in several years in the country.
The death toll rose to 14: eight people in Selangor, the country’s most populous state, and six in the eastern state of Pahang, the official Bernama agency reported.
The number could increase due to reports of missing persons.
More than 71,000 people were forced to flee their homes as a result of the floods, mainly in Pahang and Selangor. The homeless were taken to government shelters.
Authorities fear an increase in covid-19 contagions from crowding into shelters.
