The flexible wings case
In the post-match in Baku, the question of theMcLaren flexible rear wing which was going to create a sort of mini DRS has been a hot topic both on social media and in the main international motorsport magazines. This interest has then pushed the Federation to release a statement today in which he specified that monitor the situation carefullyspecifying how all the teams on the grid are successfully passing all the deflection tests and the technical rules regarding wings. The FIA has however reserved the possibility of introducing measures to mitigate this phenomenon in the near future.
The McLaren Defense
In the Singapore paddock, on Thursday, the topic of the flexible rear wing was obviously at the centre of discussions with the McLaren drivers, who obviously defended their team. Landon Norris he explained: “Personally I am very happy with what we are doing, which is a great job. Everything has been tested and is legal, so we are doing something possible.. This is F1, you explore within the rules. We passed all the tests, the FIA is happy and I am proud of what the team is doing”. Norris then wanted to point the finger at other teams, without naming them explicitly: “There are several teams, including us, that are trying to explore the rules and try to do different things. But there are more teams that do it and they just don’t get shown on TV because they’re not leading the races or for other reasons, but we’re not the only ones.”
Also Oscar Plates he obviously sided with his team: “Well it’s legal. As long as it passes all the tests, and we do a lot of those, it’s legal and I’m pretty happy with that. It is certainly not a magic solution that makes us competitive. The first time I learned about it was – like everyone else – last week and This is not a grey area of the regulation. It’s tested every week and it’s legal. In this sport you can get the most out of your performance without breaking the rules and that’s what we’re doing and that’s what you have to do to become a winning team.”
