Flexible, no-obligation car rental, Netflix style. It’s Sixt +

We are not far from the concept of Netflix: you rent a car, paying the fee every month, without restrictions and, at any time, you can change the contract or choose a different car, according to your needs, or leave it without paying penalties. It is the basis of the new offer of the car rental company Sixt, of German origin but operating in 110 countries around the world. The “package” is called Sixt +, it involves an initial entry cost of 199 euros and then the possibility of operating freely within the system through the app, or via the web. It should be remembered that Sixt is a premium rental company, offering mostly prestigious cars within their categories, well equipped and in perfect condition. In the upper part of the fleet there are also BMW M series and Maserati Ghibli or Levante but among the most requested there is still the Fiat 500. For the record, electric models are also available. For the record, a similar rental model is already active in Italy with Lynk & Co.

To use Sixt + just choose a model belonging to one of the 12 categories provided – from “economy” to luxury “- you configure it to your liking and the search engine offers the solution closest to the requests among those in the fleet. At that point, the desired monthly mileage is selected and any insurance deductibles are defined. This determines the price. You pay by credit card for the first month and pick up the car at one of the 44 Italian Sixt points. The rent is renewed every month, or the car is returned without any penalty. In this case, however, the entrance fee is lost which, therefore, must be repaid at the next rental. The cars have on average no more than six months of life and when they exceed this limit, if the rental continues, they are automatically replaced with other equivalent ones.

Compared to a traditional leasing, the advantages concern the practically immediate availability of the car, the possibility of having it even for just one month, the flexibility in case you want to change model or equipment and the completeness of the offer, which includes RC insurance, maintenance, seasonal tire change and avoid all the expenses that your car entails. But there are also secondary advantages that should not be underestimated: for example, being able to add other drivers in addition to the subscriber to the contract, it is possible to make the car available to a novice driver without facing the exorbitant insurance costs foreseen for novices behind the wheel. A few examples: the rental of a Fiat 500 with the Sixt + formula, or an equivalent model of the “economy” category, costs 499 euros per month and includes 500 km per month, which can obviously be increased. For a BMW 1 Series you need 649 and 1,139 for an Audi A7 Sportback.
