An apartment fire in Amsterdam-West may have been set on anti-LGBTI motives. Which writes the police Friday morning. The fire started around 5:45 a.m. on the eighth floor of a student flat on Krelis Louwenstraat.
Four residents were injured in the fire and were hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Four others had to be brought to safety from the balcony with a ladder truck. The fire was extinguished within an hour. The entire complex was evacuated by the fire brigade. About a hundred residents were taken care of in a nearby mosque and police station. It is not yet clear how much damage the fire caused.

According to the police, it appears that an attempt was made to light rainbow flags that hung in the flat. Actions against rainbow flags have taken place in the vicinity of the house. The fire brigade is currently still conducting a reconnaissance, after which the forensic investigation will start an investigation. This should show whether it is indeed a deliberate arson targeting the rainbow flags.
The detectives are calling on eyewitnesses or people who know more about the fire to come forward.
