Flamengo revalidated its favorite status and won its third Copa Libertadores de América this Saturday by defeating Athletico Paranaense 1-0, in a Brazilian final played in the Ecuadorian port of Guayaquil.
Striker Gabriel Barbosa was once again the hero of “Mengao” with a goal in minute 45+4, three years after handing the “torcida” from Rio de Janeiro the 2019 title.
The most popular club in Brazil and the fans considered the largest in the world now enters the select group of Brazilians who have won the Libertadores three times, along with Gremio, Santos, Sao Paulo and Palmeiras.
With the victory, Flamengo obtained a ticket to the 2023 Club World Cup, still without a record or venue. They will also face the Ecuadorian Independiente del Valle, brand-new champion of the Copa Sudamericana, in next year’s Regional Cup Winners’ Cup.
