The forecast is that in certain sectors this summer the discontinuous permanent modality will be used to cover temporary employment needs
The Region of Murcia is the fifth autonomous community in which permanent contracts have grown the most, 244.7% until May, according to a report by the Randstad temporary employment company that attributes this increase to the labor reform that came into force this year.
In Spain, the number of permanent contracts signed in the first five months touched the figure of 2.5 million, three times more (218.6% more) than those made in the same period last year (784,041).

One in three contracts signed up to May has been indefinite, while in the same period last year this proportion was only one in ten.
Between January and May of this year, a total of 126,902 permanent contracts were formalized in the Region, 34.2% of all hiring, when in the same period last year the number of permanent contracts was 36,811, on 9, 2% of the total.
“We are verifying how the entry into force of the labor reform is having positive results for the labor market, since, in most cases, employers are able to cover the same need with another contract format, so that Longer-term contracts than in previous years, ”Valentin Bote, director of Randstad Research, highlighted yesterday.
Agriculture in the lead
The forecast is that in certain activities and sectors, such as in the current summer campaign, companies resort to the discontinuous fixed contract to respond to temporary needs.
By sectors, the greatest increase in permanent contracts in the first five months of the year was experienced by agriculture, with an increase of 368.5%, followed by construction, with 286.4%. With more moderate increases appears the service sector (+213.3%) and industry (+126.1%).
With the labor reform, on March 31, the work or service contract, one of the most widespread in the Spanish labor market, ceased to exist.
By age groups, indefinite contracts signed with young people under 25 years of age were the ones that registered the greatest increase until May, almost 400% compared to last year, to close to half a million in all of Spain.
As for economic activities, the Randstad study highlights that the hospitality sector is where the most permanent contracts have been signed until May, with a total of 535,320, also experiencing the largest increase in the entire economy (+587.1 %).
By communities, the Balearic Islands lead the increases until May, having multiplied the signatures by more than six. With increases also above the average (+218.6%) are Extremadura (+360.3%), Andalucía (+332.8%), Canarias (+324.3%), Murcia (+244.7 %) and the Valencian Community (+226.9%).
