The mayor of the town has confirmed that the suspect has been intercepted
At least five people have died and more than thirty have been injured after a driver ran his vehicle over a crowd celebrating a carnival party in the Belgian town of Strépy-Bracquegnies, municipality of La Louvière, in the southeast of the country.
The event took place around 05:00 (local time) and the first balance provided by the mayor of the municipality, Jacques Gobert, speaks of at least five deaths, 12 seriously injured and twenty injured.
“The car crashed at high speed into a crowd and the driver tried to escape from the place but was intercepted,” explained the mayor in statements collected by the Belgian media ‘La Libre’.
The Police will give a press conference shortly to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
