The two fatalities are a 21-year-old man from Westerveld and a 16-year-old girl from De Wolden. They died on the spot. The police waited until the next of kin had been informed before disclosing this news.
Driver seriously injured
The 19-year-old driver, from Westerveld, was seriously injured, as was an 18-year-old fellow citizen. The fifth victim was a 16-year-old girl from De Wolden who suffered minor injuries.
The three have all been taken to hospital.
plucked out en masse
Emergency services rushed out en masse after the accident, including a trauma helicopter. Several of the occupants were trapped in the vehicle.
It is unclear what caused the car to end up in the ditch. The Traffic Forensic Investigation Service is currently investigating the cause of the accident. The road is closed for this.
