“The abolition of the limited number for enrollment in the Faculties of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics as well as the 'Pnrr Decree', just approved by the Senate, which contains various implementations long awaited by over 50 thousand specialists regarding their recruitment through the so-called 'Calabria Decree', raise concerns about the quality of medical training and the overcrowding of the medical job market as well as post-graduate training”. Thus to Adnkronos the president of the Italian Federation of medical-scientific societies, Loreto Gesualdo, underlines the importance of “rational and sustainable programming for medical training”, in response to these decisions, “based on the needs of the various specialist branches and retirements”. This “approach – Gesualdo points out – must aim to guarantee quality university training and post-graduate certification centered on the skills of future doctors”.
In line with these considerations, “a complete reform of the education system is needed – is Gesualdo's proposal – which takes into account the real needs projected on the retirement hump”. This “approach must aim to guarantee a balance between supply and demand of specialist skills , ensuring optimal management of human resources in the field of health”, he concludes.
