Alonso's 2023
The final season of Fernando Alonso it highlighted all the qualities of the two-time world champion, despite his 42 years of age which had initially left some doubts among the most sceptical. Doubts completely erased from him eight podiums achieved, in addition to other performances that have led most fans to point to the Spaniard as one of the fittest riders ever.
What was missed most in 2023 was the victory, the 33rd of his career, which Alonso has been chasing for ten years. Despite this long abstinence, the qualities of the driver from Oviedo have never been questioned, even more so by those who knew the former Ferrari driver well. It is the case of Giancarlo Fisichellawho became Alonso's teammate in F1 Renault precisely in the two years in which the Spaniard won his two world titles in 2005 and 2006.
The 2023 assessment
Interviewed by paddocknews24.comFisichella still considers the Aston Martin driver to be one of the most 'dangerous' for the competition, also evaluating what was his last world championship: “An extraordinary return, a season of eight on the report card – declared the Roman pilot – it's clear to me: if he is physically well he is still among the strongest. I would be curious to see him in a car capable of fighting for the title“.
The most interesting pilots
Fourth in the Drivers' standings behind the two almost unbeatable Red Bulls of Verstappen and Perez, as well as former teammate Lewis Hamilton, Alonso was therefore indicated by Fisichella as one of the best drivers currently on the starting grid. In all of this, 'Physicist' he also indicated other pilots he particularly liked: “Verstappen is a cannibal at the momentvery difficult to beat – he added – obviously I support and appreciate Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, but I really like Lando Norris and I see that Oscar Piastri is growing rapidly“.
