Giancarlo Fisichella is ready for a new adventure: the Italian has in fact made official its presence in the Adelaide leg of the S5000 Tasman Series, the open-wheel category that supports the championship Supercars, the highest Australian competition for touring cars. Born in 1973, Fisichella raced in Formula 1 between 1996 and 2009, winning three Grands Prix – in Brazil in 2003 with Jordan, in Australia in 2005 and in Malaysia in 2006, the latter both with Renault – and since 2010 he has competed in endurance competitions, commitment renewed in 2022, a year in which he took part in the WEC, driving a Ferrari 488 GTE Evo of the Iron Lynx team.
The event, scheduled from 2 to 4 December next and on the sidelines of the famous Adelaide 500, will finally be an opportunity for the former Benetton standard bearer to test the streets of the southern Australian town, where he has never had the opportunity to to compete, given that the headquarters of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix – held just in Adelaide 1985 and 1995 – it was moved to Albert Park’s Melbourne since 1996, edition in which, among other things, the Roman made his debut in the Circus driving the Minardi.
Hired by the team BRM, the same one that in 2019 had given a steering wheel to Rubens Barrichello in a ‘spectacle race’ of the same category, Fisichella would in theory have already had to compete in the S5000 in the event that supported the 2020 Australian Grand Prix, then canceled due to the pandemic from Covid-19. “I am thrilled to be back in Australia to race the S5000 at last“, Declared the Italian who added:”After the unfortunate cancellation of the competitions on the sidelines of the 2020 Australian Grand Prix, it is as if there are some unfinished business“.
“My Formula 1 career started literally a few weeks after the last race ever ad Adelaide, so i have never ridden on this circuit and although the current version has been slightly shortened i am very impatient”Concluded Fisichella, more than ever ready to place yet another piece of such a long-lived career.
