Successes at Mercedes
If we exclude winning the world championship, Valtteri Bottas he managed to collect good results in F1 especially after Nico Rosberg’s unexpected retirement from racing at the end of 2016, which pushed Toto Wolff to focus on the Finn. In the golden years of Mercedes, the Finn collected 67 podiums, 10 victories and 20 pole positionsbut even for those who have experienced the most authentic joys in the Circus there are difficulties to face.
Zero points?
The most difficult is undoubtedly what the #77 is currently experiencing at the wheel of the Sauber, future Audi. Never, not even in his early days with Williams, did Bottas risk finishing a world championship without any points gained in the Drivers’ standings. A danger that seems to become increasingly greater as we get closer to the checkered flag of this championship, which still has six races to go.
There are also fears for 2025
A 13th place in Monaco and another in Canada as the best placings achieved which reflect the crisis in results of the Swiss team, which is also still without points, with Bottas now appearing closer to surrender after 11 consecutive years in the top- 10: “It would be bad for me and what I have achieved in my career so far – the Finn commented to the media – we expect the next year it will be difficult and I don’t think there will be miracles“.
The Audi project
Zero points which ‘add’ to the doubts relating to the future of Bottas himself in F1, who hopes to be able to start a new path in Sauber alongside Nico Hülkenberg before the arrival of Audi in 2026, despite some doubts in the paddock: “You can’t overcommit in 2025 because of the big changes for 2026, and from what I’ve seen, Audi will be able to be competitive in ’26but it won’t be easy – continued the former Mercedes – it’s tough to jump into a new sport against manufacturers who have all been here for a long time, but I think 2026 can be a good year. Trying to win right away is a difficult task. This is the harsh reality. Scoring points regularly, however, is more realistic for the new team.”
