After years, this weekend the movie finally premieres Borderlands in the United States. While the general public still has to wait a couple of days to enjoy this film, some critics and lucky ones had the opportunity to see this feature film ahead of time, and Their opinions revealed a less than positive picture.
Overall, the review is not positive. While there are some worthwhile elements, such as Cate Blanchett’s performance, many have pointed out that the film lacks genuinely funny moments, and The action of the games is replaced by sequences without much importance. This is what Adriano Caporusso commented:
“BORDERLANDS is a mess. Packed with every cliché you can imagine, this movie trades the chaos and imagination of the games for a lifeless, graceless, visually repulsive fiasco with annoying characters and a cast with no chemistry whatsoever.”

Movies We Texted About commented:
“Oh, hey, I can tell you that I’ve already seen the Borderlands movie and it’s really bad. I really wanted to like it, but an uninspired plot, several improvised performances, and the fact that it’s stuck in a strange place where it looks expensive and cheap at the same time make it a huge failure.”

Likewise, Edgar Ortega added:
“Borderlands comes across as what an out-of-touch executive thinks the cool kids find attractive. There isn’t a single moment of sincerity from the characters, just nasty comments that seem dated the minute they come out of the actors’ mouths. It’s not even bad enough to be good, just a complete mess.”

On the other hand, The Hollywood Handle shares a slightly more positive opinion:
“Borderlands is a fun, PG-13 action movie. It relies entirely on Cate Blanchett’s star power to get it to the finish line, and she delivers.
While there’s nothing that makes it stand out, particularly from the rest, the film is enjoyable from start to finish and has a decent pace throughout. Jack Black is also a great comedian.
Aside from some cheesy flashback scenes and acting decisions that don’t always work, Borderlands isn’t anything to complain about, but it’s also nothing to be happy about.
