The work of a robotic engineering student was a success among internet users. What he had only as a personal project, after being shared on social media with a brief description of the process, completely scaled his ambitions.
Pillnel aimed to create an iPhone with a USB-C port, but one that would continue to work, unlike other projects that had already been carried out. The young man reverse-engineered Apple’s custom C94 connector, creating his own flexible PCB design that fits inside an iPhone.

It is an iPhone X that, in addition to having a USB-C port, offers 64 GB of storage, comes in black and has a case, but does not bring any accessories. The creator also warns that this phone should not be used as main equipment or even in frequent use. It must also not be restored or have any data erased after purchase.
However, despite the limitations, Pillnel’s project was highly profitable. Through an auction on the eBay platform, the iPhone X was sold for $86,001, which in a direct conversion is around 465,000 reais. There is also information that 116 bids were made. Some over $100,000, but they were eventually withdrawn.
