The close relationship between Elon Musk and the new president of the United States, Donald Trump, has not been a big surprise, because they both share many aspects and ideas. And although their personalities are similar, this also means that it was a matter of time before one did something that the other did not like, and that fact has already occurred in the first week since Trump’s inauguration.
This first division in the relationship between these magnates has occurred due to an announcement made by the new US president, last Wednesday, January 22, when Trump announced a new large Artificial Intelligence (AI) project called Stargate with a investment of 500,000 million dollars (about 480,000 million euros at the exchange rate).
The idea of this project is the construction of twenty new data centers in the next four yearswith the aim of offering the necessary infrastructure to support AI projects developed in the US.
During the presentation, the president was accompanied by the creator of ChatGPT, OpenAI; the japanese investment conglomerate SoftBank; and the technological Oracle, represented by Sam Altman (CEO), Masayoshi Son (CEO) and Larry Ellison (founder) respectively.
These three companies have already made an initial investment of about 100,000 million dollars for the creation of ‘Stargate’. This could sound like great news for US technology, since in this way the development of the US’s own AI will be promoted, however, Musk has not been convinced by this announcement, and as usual (although it is not usually go against his own), his opinion has not been silenced.
Why Musk is not convinced by the Stargate project
Some might be surprised that a person who advocates so much for the development of technology and who advocates for Trump’s “Make America Great Again” would now start to “criticize” this project. The reason for this is that between The companies involved are OpenAI, a company that Musk himself co-founded with Altman. and other people, but at the same time He ultimately ended up leaving due to differences in the vision of the future with the rest of the managers.
Although there was no formal dismissal, but rather a gradual and consensual exitMusk still holds a lot of resentment towards OpenAI and especially Altman, and whenever he can he criticizes and attacks everything they do from “the queen of AI”. And the Stargate announcement was not going to be any less, especially because he sees how his friend Trump is also a friend of Altman, and this is something he does not like at all.
“They don’t really have the money” he said, replying to a message from the announcement to a tweet from OpenAI, just as he has not stopped retweeting other content with messages like “There are a thousand different ways Sam Altman can sabotage Trump.”
This is an important fact, because in recent months Trump and Musk have been in line in everything they did, but now that the former has returned to power he has just given his partner a hard blow by giving this project to one of his worst. enemies. We are sure that It will not be the end of this powerful relationship, however, the first crack in this alliance has already opened.
