In that sense, several personalities from the political world, including former president Michelle Bachelet, have mourned his loss and have also offered their condolences to the family.
However, this afternoon his brother, José Miguel, better known as Negro Piñera, published a photo on his Instagram account, accompanied by an emotional message.
“It is with deep regret that we announce the death of our dear brother, Sebastián Piñera Echenique, former president of the Republic of Chile,” he began by saying.
“Sebastián left us today, at 74 years of age, after a helicopter accident. His departure leaves a great void in our lives,” he added.

“He was an exemplary family man, a visionary businessman, an exceptional political leader and a tremendous brother. His legacy will be marked by his tireless fight for freedom, democracy and the development of our country,” he continued.
“Sebastián Piñera will be remembered for his charisma, his energy and his contagious optimism. His tireless spirit and his deep conviction in the future of Chile will always inspire us,” he added.
“In this moment of pain, we pray for his eternal rest and we accompany his wife, Cecilia Morel, his children and grandchildren in their pain. Rest in peace, little brother,” he concluded.
