In the Republic of Tatarstan, the first criminal case was opened on calls for riots on January 23. This was reported by the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee (IC) on Thursday, January 21.

On this fact, a criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Art. 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (calls for riots).
The punishment under this article of the Criminal Code can be in the form of imprisonment for up to two years, or forced labor for the same period.
Earlier on the same day, the first deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexander Gorovoy, said that police officers were preparing to protect order at unauthorized rallies on 23 January. According to him, the department will bring citizens to administrative responsibility for calls to participate in rallies.
In addition, Roskomnadzor announced on January 21 that it would prosecute social networks that will publish materials calling for participation in unauthorized actions.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia also demanded to restrict access to websites where calls for participation in illegal actions on January 23 are published.
