Fires Two residential buildings were destroyed in fires on Christmas Eve

The cause of the fire in both fires was not yet known on the eve.

Rescue services have reported two fires in a residential building on Christmas Eve.

In Maalahti, Ostrobothnia, a detached house was destroyed in a fire, but personal injuries were avoided, said the fire chief on duty.

The Rescue Department received an alarm about a fire in a detached house shortly after 6 p.m. Residents of the house had noticed the house was on fire when they arrived home.

According to the firefighter, the cause of the fire was not yet known on the eve, but the preliminary estimate was that the fire came from the kitchen.

At about eight o’clock in the evening, the fire had been extinguished and a follow-up was already underway.

The firefighter said the fire caused major smoke and soot damage. The furniture also burned extensively. A family of four living in the house was given temporary accommodation.

In Lapland Seven people were rescued from a log building on fire in Rovaniemi after they noticed the fire. The rescue service received an alarm about a fire on the east side of Lake Perunkajärvi at about half past four on Christmas Eve.

The two-story building, about 300 square feet in size, was in a full-fire phase when the rescue department arrived on the scene. Extinguishing work continued for several hours.

The firefighter on duty on the eve could not tell the cause of the fire because the devastation was so extensive.

According to the firefighter, everyone in the house had been given accommodation.
