Difficult conditions when fighting fires in Greece
Hundreds of firefighters and nine firefighting planes have been fighting the flames since Sunday, but stormy winds are hampering the firefighting work considerably. Six villages were evacuated as a precaution. Because of the thick smoke, authorities also asked older and sick people in more distant areas not to leave their homes. It was only in the summer that severe forest fires in Greece made evacuations necessary.
