In total, the government will allocate R$514 million outside the fiscal target to control fires across the country
The government published on the evening of this Wednesday (18.Sep.2024) the MP (provisional measure) that releases R$ 514,474,666 million to combat fires across the country. The initiative was announced at the meeting of the heads of the Three Powers at the Planalto Palace on Tuesday (17.Sep).
Only Ibama (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) and ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation) will receive R$104 million (R$42 million and R$62 million, respectively). Read the full of the document (PDF – x454 kB).
Here is how the division by ministry was:
- Ministry of Justice and Public Security – R$ 8 million;
- Ministry of Environment and Climate Change – R$ 114 million;
- Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming – R$ 1 million;
- Ministry of Defense – R$ 154 million;
- Ministry of Integration and Regional Development – R$ 130 million;
- Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Combating
- Hunger – R$ 100 million;
- Ministry of Indigenous Peoples – R$6 million.
The measure opens extraordinary credit after the Minister of STF (Supreme Federal Court) Flavio Dino allowed the resources to fall outside the fiscal deficit target. The money will be distributed among ministries and their agencies.
