Stellantis announced a recall involving 194,000 plug-in hybrid Jeep SUVs, a measure necessary to address potential fire risks. According to Reuters, the American automaker received reports of 13 fires, all of which occurred when the vehicles were parked and turned off: As such, owners have been advised to park their vehicles outside and away from other vehicles until the necessary repairs are completed.
Models involved
The recall concerns specific models of Wrangler products from 2020 to 2024 e Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids made from 2022 to 2024. According to the latest rumors, the problem can be traced back to a component of the battery, which could be faulty in 5% of affected vehicles. Stellantis has communicated that the risk of fire decreases when the battery charge level is exhausted: this is why owners have been advised not to recharge their vehicles and to keep them away from structures and other vehicles.
Jeep recall
The recall includes 154,000 vehicles in the United States, 14,000 in Canada, 700 in Mexico and approximately 26,000 in other regions outside of North America. This security measure was prompted by a routine company review of customer data, which led to an internal investigation into the matter. Stellantis and Jeep itself, however, have ensured that a remedy to the problem is imminent.
