A video clip showed the moments of a fire burning in Urengoy field in Siberia, where a large fireball was spotted there.
And the website “Oil Pierce”, which specializes in energy, reported that the fire was caused by an explosion in one of the pipes.
The “Gazprom” unit operating at the site was quoted as saying that the explosion occurred this morning (Thursday) in a pipe located between two gas processing units, and no injuries were recorded, according to “Gazprom”.
For its part, the Russian gas giant Gazprom said that the fire was extinguished and production was not affected, but this did not dispel the concerns of Europe, which depends on the gas produced in this field.
Europe fears that such a catastrophe will raise already high energy prices.
Urengoy is the largest gas field in Russia, and one of the largest in the world, and has been operating without interruption since 1978.
A similar fire occurred nearby last year, which increased gas prices in Europe by 6 percent.
