Fire in a skyscraper in Taiwan, at least 46 dead
L’fire flared up around 3 am (local time of Taiwan) on the first floors of the skyscraper which is located in the Yancheng district of the city of Kaohsiung, in the southern part of the island. In a short time the fire devoured the 13 floors of the building causing, according to the current budget, 46 dead and about 80 injured.
Rescue operations are still ongoing. On the spot they operate beyond 370 rescuers, according to firefighters there are still people trapped on the seventh and eleventh floors. In the building there were restaurants, karaoke bars, a cinema and 120 apartments.
The authorities report that in the last period the commercial part of the skyscraper had been partially abandoned and the first floors had accumulated a lot of waste. Furthermore, the human factor has already been ruled out as the cause of the fire. THE residents reported to local media that they heard a noise, like a ‘explosion, before the fire broke out. Residents also report that the power line, in recent days, had had problems.
