Another 1.9 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, produced with imported active pharmaceutical ingredient (IFA), were delivered this Friday (4) by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) to the Ministry of Health and will reinforce the national vaccination campaign against the covid-19.
Vaccines are made with the so-called “viral vector”, a virus modified to stimulate the human immune system to produce antibodies against the new coronavirus.
From now on, the doses go through a quality control process to ensure that they arrive safely in the arms of Brazilians.
national vaccine
In February of this year, the federal government received the first batch of the Covid-19 vaccine entirely produced on Brazilian soil. The production was made possible after the articulation of Brazil with the British government so that it was possible to transfer technology between the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and Fiocruz.
Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign against covid-19, around 465 million doses of vaccines against covid-19 have been distributed by the federal government to the states and the Federal District, of which 379 million have already been applied.
