Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin returned part of the money for her family breakfasts to the country’s budget after a scandal erupted around these spending. This was reported by the newspaper Ilta-Sanomat
It is reported that she gave back 10 thousand euros, and in total by the end of the summer she must transfer 14 thousand to the state. She said that she spent this money on family meals over the past year and a half because she thought it was normal practice for Finnish prime ministers.
When it became clear that the state did not pay for breakfast for the prime ministers, she promised to reimburse all expenses, and the office in charge of the issue promised to develop updated instructions for obtaining state benefits.
Marin has served as Prime Minister since December 2019. She became the third woman in this post, as well as the youngest prime minister not only in Finland, but worldwide.
