A new Iron Curtain has emerged between Russia and the West. This was announced on Friday, July 1, by Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto.
“I do believe that the European security architecture is broken. This is a new situation, a new type of iron curtain has emerged between Russia and other countries,” he said in an interview with the TV channel. CNN.
Haavisto noted that this is due to the start of a special military operation of the Russian Federation to protect Donbass, adds “Gazeta.Ru”.
On June 30, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West had already begun to lower the iron curtain between itself and Russia. He stressed that Russia is doing everything necessary to reduce dependence on the West.
On the same day, Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, called the Iron Curtain a new stage in the confrontation between the West and the Russian Federation. According to the senator, the current situation is in many ways reminiscent of the relationship between Europe, the United States and the Soviet Union in the mid-1970s. At present, all this is being repeated, but with a certain farce, since the United States no longer has that power.
On June 24, Lavrov said that the collective West seeks to eliminate everything that does not fit into the neoliberal concept of seeing the world, because it is afraid of fair competition. He added that the fear of Western countries prompts them, in particular, to impose bans on the broadcasting of foreign TV channels and try to eliminate objectionable politicians from social networks.
Prior to that, on June 23, Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov expressed the opinion that the West’s denigrating Russian policy is an attempt to hide their sins and free themselves from guilt for their own mistakes in the past.
