Finnish Fennovioma demanded two billion euros from Rosatom for the disruption of the nuclear power plant project
The Finnish energy company Fennovioma has filed an arbitration court requesting the recovery of about two billion euros from Rosatom as compensation for the disruption of the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear power plant construction project. This is with reference to an interview with the head of the company, Joachim Specht, to Helsingin Sanomat. Interfax.
According to him, 800 million euros of the total amount is an advance that Fennovioma made in favor of the Finnish structure of the Russian company RAOS Project. At the same time, Specht pointed out, Rosatom warned Finland at the beginning of 2022 about the possibility of delaying the project and postponing the deadlines for several years. This circumstance became one of the reasons for the refusal to build a nuclear power plant.
Fennovioma unilaterally terminated the contract for the construction of Hanhikivi 1 in early May. At the end of the month, the application for a building license was also withdrawn. The company explained its decision by the constant delays and military operations of the Russian army in Ukraine, which only exacerbated the risks for the project.
Earlier, Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev noted that the Russian company was going to demand that Fennovoima return all the costs of the nuclear power plant project and was ready to apply to international arbitration. According to him, earlier a similar issue with the Bulgarian Belene project was withdrawn in favor of the Russian side, which received more than 600 million euros.
