Financial crimes A decisive clue about Perttu Nousiainen was given to HS by a municipal politician investigating war crimes

Nina Suomalainen, Executive Director of the Geneva-based Justice Rapid Response, met a man who looked like Perttu Nousiainen in Verbier and gave advice to Helsingin Sanomat.

We published in early November extensive writing About the Youth Foundation.

As Yle and Suomen Kuvalehti had gone through the financial foundations of the Youth Foundation in detail in recent years, in addition to buying the coil, we decided to try to find out the former chairman of the foundation’s board. Perttu Nousiainen disappearance.

Nousiainen was reported to have left the hotel in Tallinn on the evening of March 3, 2020. The comic had not been heard from him.

For our first extensive story, we interviewed dozens of Nousiainen acquaintances, and heard a large number of different rumors and theories about Nousiainen’s whereabouts and fate.

It was uncertain whether Nousiainen was alive at all. However, it was still possible that he might be hiding from the authorities somewhere.

After the publication of the article, there were more hints about Nousiainen’s whereabouts.

On Monday The phone rings on November 15th. The caller was Nina Suomalainen. He recounted his special encounter a couple of days earlier at the Verbier ski resort in the Swiss Alps.

The Finn is a Coalition city councilor in Helsinki, but he works in Geneva, Switzerland, as the executive director of Justice Rapid Response. The organization is an international cooperation network that provides expert assistance in the investigation of war crimes and the safeguarding of evidence.

On the second weekend, a Finn had traveled from Geneva to spend a weekend in the almost deserted ski resort of Verbier.

He says that he went to the Lumi restaurant on Saturday evening and met two Finnish men there. They had introduced themselves Mikko Henttoseksi and Tommy Koskeksi. The Finn spent several hours talking to them.

“They were really nice,” he says.

Restaurant in Lumi Verbier.

Afterwards However, the Finns became preoccupied with a few illogicalities in the gentlemen’s speeches. Tommy Koski, for example, said that he was from Vaasa, but he spoke a thick Savo dialect.

So the Finn googled the names of the men. Almost nothing was found in Tommy Koski. Mikko Henttonen’s name, on the other hand, was found in an extensive Youth Foundation article published by HS at the beginning of November. In the spring of 2018, Henttonen was the chairman of the board of the foundation.

Nina Suomalainen looked at a picture of Perttu Nousiainen published in the HS story. The man in the picture pretty much resembled Tommy Koske, whom the Finn had met at a restaurant.

“My first reaction was that well but this is the type I just met. But then it felt like how could it be when that guy at the bar didn’t seem to be in any way intimidated by chatting and telling stories. It felt really illogical, ”says Suomalainen.

So the Finn was not sure. At least not so sure he would have dared to inform the authorities. Especially when Lehtikuva’s Nousiainen was quite much stronger than Tommy Koski in the restaurant.

So Suomalainen contacted HS’s suppliers and asked if it could be Perttu Nousiainen.

When We combined several tips we had heard from elsewhere and information related to the details of the case into the Finnish story, and it began to seem possible for Nousiainen to hide in Verbier. Especially when the owners of the Lumi restaurant have Mikko Henttone and Mikko Launo there was a connection to the Youth Foundation and they knew Nousiainen.

Helsingin Sanomat decided to go to Verbier on the spot to look for Nousia.

The view of Nousiainen’s false identity was strengthened when we found out that it was right Tommy Koski was in Tallinn. On Friday 19 March, we met Perttu Nousiainen, who introduced himself as Tommy Koskeksi, at the Snow Bar in Verbier. He fled the place but contacted us afterwards and admitted that he was Perttu Nousiainen.

At first, Nina Suomalainen hoped that Helsingin Sanomat would not in any way hint at her contribution as a source of decisive clues. He wondered about the possible risks that would follow. This, of course, was the case.

When Nousiainen returned voluntarily to Finland and surrendered to the police, Suomalainen felt that his share could be told.
