Square Enix recently revealed how much they’ve sold Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the new chapter of the saga Final Fantasy XVIand it’s not exciting news. In fact, the publisher of the titles revealed that sales were not optimal. Yes, they were below expectations. And perhaps the problem was temporary exclusivity.
Despite a Final Fantasy loyal fanbase and especially the seventh chapter, the title did not meet the expectations that Square Enix had made on the sales of the game. And the same goes for Final Fantasy XVI, the new chapter of the saga that offers a series of changes in terms of gameplay, compared to XV and the previous ones.
We don’t know the exact numbers, but we do know that Square Enix thinks it has figured out the reason for this suboptimal performance of the games: temporary exclusivity. This is because selling a title to a larger user base, increases the chances that a stock will be purchased. For this reason, the publisher is now thinking of changing its approach and publishing its games on multiple platforms.
Specifically it was said that in case of HD gamesa global environment will be created that allows players to enjoy AAA games. Although the director who worked on the Final Fantasy XVI DLC said that the downloadable content was a success mainly among young peoplealthough in general, not even Final Fantasy XVI Did Not Have the Sales Performance Hoped For.
As for the next Final Fantasy chapters, let’s look at the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project, scheduled for 2027.
