BRASILIA (Reuters) – The final version of Covid’s CPI report, which will be voted on this Tuesday, now includes 10 new indictees and reached 76 people and two companies.
Among the new indictees, included by the rapporteur, Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL), at the request of other senators, is the Secretary of Science and Technology at the Ministry of Health Helio Angotti Neto, accused of a pandemic resulting in death and incitement to crime. Angotti Neto was investigated in the case of the collapse of the Manaus health system.
Also on the list, among others, was Lieutenant Colonel Heitor Freire de Abreu, adviser to Defense Minister Walter Braga Neto, who worked with him in coordinating the group formed by the government to respond to the pandemic.
The document did not bring the indictment of the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, and the former Secretary of Health of the State, Marcellus Campêlo, but both ended up being included during the session, at the request of senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM).
The senator, who had a separate vote with the inclusion of Lima and Campêlo, said that this was his only modification in relation to Renan’s text and would waive it if Renan accepted his amendment, which he did.
Sought by Reuters, Angotti Neto, Abreu e Lima did not immediately respond to the request for comment. It was not possible to contact Campêlo immediately.
