The prolongation of the grave crisis Ukraine pushed the Board of Directors of the FIM to hold an extraordinary meeting today, on the eve of the race valid for the Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix. Following the recommendations of the Olympic Committee, the world of two wheels has also decided to condemn firmly and unanimously what is happening in recent days in Ukraine, invaded by the Russian armed forces for more than a week ago. For this reason, the leaders of the International Federation have thus formalized the following moves aimed at excluding Russian drivers and teams from world competitions:
- The Russian and Belarusian Motorcycle Federation (MFR and BFMS respectively) will no longer be able to issue FIM licenses, with the related suspension of the relevant officers acting on behalf of the latter. Moreover, no Russian or Belarusian drivers, teams and officials will be able to participate in competitions recognized by the FIM.
- Cancellation of all meetings o competitions recognized by the FIM initially programmed in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. However, i transfers of such events in aother nation.
Following these decisions, the President of the FIM, Jorge Valdasexpressed his comment on the official website of the Federation, where the choices were officially announced: “We stand in solidarity with all those who suffer from the Russian invasion of Ukraine – he has declared – and we remain in close contact with our affiliate member in Ukraine (FMU). I would like to thank the FIM board members for deciding these measures in the interest of sport and peace. The FIM, together with its promoters and organizers, have already acted on this issue and canceled the scheduled FIM races in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The decisions announced today are in line with the recommendations and statements of the International Olympic Committee, adapted to our sport. The FIM family is watching developments in Ukraine with great sadness and the hope of a quick and peaceful resolution “.
